AMERICAN LIBRARY ASSOCIATION (ALA)
Information on all things library related. Association news, Issues and Advocacy, and Professional Tools are just a few of the topic areas covered at this site.
ASSEMBLY FOR LITERATURE ON ADOLESCENTS (ALAN)
The Assembly on Literature for Adolescents is an independent assembly of NCTE. ALAN is made up of teachers, authors, librarians, publishers, teacher-educators and their students, and others who are particularly interested in the area of young adult literature. The website includes access to an electronic archive of The ALAN Review containing articles on YA literature and its teaching, interviews with authors, reports on publishing trends, current research on YA literature, a section of reviews of new books, and ALAN membership news.
INTERNATIONAL READING ASSOCIATION (IRA)
The name says it all. Locate information regarding IRA activities including conference and regional workshop information, extensive listing of professional publications, membership information and member only services. The teacher tools section is quite extensive containing lesson planning ideas and access to current research.
ILLINOIS READING COUNCIL (IRC)
The Illinois Reading Council provides statewide leadership and support for literacy initiatives throughout Illinois. As the state chapter of the International Reading Association, the IRC supports local reading councils and statewide interest groups, such as the Secondary Reading League. Find information regarding IRC programs and initiatives, grant program applications and information regarding its statewide literacy conference. All SRL members should make frequents visits to this site!
NATIONAL COUNCIL TEACHERS OF ENGLISH (NCTE)
An expansive site containing a wealth of information about the organization, its varied services, education policy and practical information for teachers. The teaching resources center is perhaps most useful, containing information on summer reading programs, adolescent literacy, grammar, ELL learners, classroom based assessments, literacy coaching and lots more. If you’re willing to spend a bit of time you will locate plenty of useful information.

National Institute for Literacy
The National Institute for Literacy, a federal agency, provides leadership on literacy issues, including the improvement of reading instruction for children, youth, and adults. Here you can access materials related to their publications, research and statistics, grants, programs and services and discussion lists.
National Reading Panel
The National Reading Panel is extremely influential in areas of literacy policy. While no longer meeting as an active research group, NRP reports are still considered the standard in assessing research based approaches to reading instruction. You can access all NRP reports from their site.
